Passages Malibu Celebrates 16 Years of Luxury and Non-12-Step Addiction Treatment

By Jennifer McDougall

Since August 11, 2001, Passages Malibu has stood at the forefront of non-12-Step addiction treatment. When Passages Malibu opened its doors 16 years ago, Co-Founders Pax and Chris Prentiss forever changed the way addiction is viewed and treated. Passages Malibu was created after CEO and Co-Founder, Pax Prentiss fought to overcome his own battle with addiction for 10 difficult years. The treatment that is utilized at Passages is also what helped save Pax’s life and break the cycle of his addictions, for good.

Before the revolutionary holistic treatment offered at Passages Malibu was available, addiction was viewed as an incurable disease. This philosophy is accompanied by hopelessness, stigma, and shame. Passages chooses to empower those who are suffering with addiction so they can regain the hope, strength, and courage to get to the root cause of the issue causing them to use and abuse drugs and alcohol. We don’t agree with the disease model of addiction for our research as shown that dependency is a result of one or more of the following four causes:

  1. Chemical imbalance
  2. Unresolved events from the past
  3. Beliefs you hold that are inconsistent with what is true
  4. Inability to cope with current conditions

The treatment model at Passages Malibu has helped saved the lives of thousands of people around the world. We are grateful for the opportunity to make such a positive impact on those who suffer. Whether it is you or someone you know who is struggling with dependency related issues, Passages can help.

What Makes Passages Malibu Different Than Other Treatment Centers

World Class Experience…

at a World Class Program!

Last year, I spent 5 weeks at Passages Malibu, working on a lifetime of mental health issues which led to substance abuse. I could not have chosen a better Program to help me wrestle with my demons.

The facility and Staff are top notch; First Class all the way around! The program consisted of hours and hours of one-on-one counseling with my primary, family, spiritual and chemical dependency counselors.

Passages also provided other programs to help with my Recovery. Some of my favorites were Tai-Chi. Music and Art Therapy, and Personal Training. Added to that were additional hours in Massage, Acupuncture and Hypnotherapy. I was so grateful for the self-care part of the program, and believe my Recovery progressed rapidly due having the time to relax after so many productive and intense counseling sessions. The Passages Way works on each aspect of your mind, body and soul.

Today, I am much more involved in life than I was a year ago. While I still make mistakes and the occasional poor choice, I don’t have to live a life where I believe I’m the mistake. For that and much more, I have Passages to thank.

It really is a World Class Property. Which makes for an easier time to work on your “stuff”. I highly recommend that you give them a call before you begin your journey of discovery to the healthier you. I’m thankful I did. And, they take Insurance; BONUS!

Passages saved my life!

My experience with Passages was beyond any expectation. Yes, I was scared to call and ask for help. My family and friends were encouraging me for years to quit drinking but I didn’t know where to begin or what I needed to do. I was lost. My career was in a rut. I couldn’t save a dime. I was spending all my money on alcohol and pot. I became out of shape and undesirable. I wanted to get my life back and back get control. I wanted to make myself and my family proud of the man I was but alcohol and drugs stood in the way. I was trying to cope with so many underlying issues I wasn’t even sure what they were or how to fix them. I went to Passages for 90 days and the results have been incredible. I’m happy, healthy, and live a life I can finally be proud of. I’m thankful for the people at Passages who really helped me overcome this nearly deadly battle. I encourage anyone out there who is reading this to please pick up the phone and call them! You won’t regret it.

Cade M.

Love when I find a treatment center that actually cares about the patient first!

Passages Delivers as Promised

Passages provides excellent holistic treatment for addiction in a beautiful environment. The experience heals and nourishes the mind and soul. If you are engaged and ready to fully dive in to the experience with an open mind, you will get what you came for.

Thank You Passages

When I first reached out to Passages I was scared. I knew I needed help but I was afraid to ask for it. Once I mustarded up the courage to reach for the phone and finally call for help, I felt I great sense of relief. For about a year I watched the Passages commercial on TV and found the message to be powerful and quite intriguing. After hearing Pax’s story and how badly he struggled with addiction it gave me a lot of hope that I could pull out of this hole I dug for myself. My troubles began with alcohol, then marijuana, then cocaine. I chased a high to escape from my insecurities, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I just didn’t want to feel anything. I wanted to be happy and confident but I was destroying my life with these substances. During my 90 day stay at Passages, my entire world changed and improved. All of the therapists help bring many things to light and helped me heal my underlying conditions causing me to use and abuse drugs and alcohol. I am so thankful I reached out and committed to changing my life with the help of Passages. My family, career, and relationships are all so much more stable. The best part about being at Passages was the care and support everyone there gives you. They treated me like family. I never felt so welcomed somewhere before. Pax and Chris made regular visits and interacted with us—they treated me like a normal person, not someone with a disease or sickness like they do other places. Thank you to everyone at Passages who helped me get my life back and save me from destroying my future. I am so grateful for this, every single day.

Spectacular

Passages gave me the tools to help me get my life back. The day I arrived I was really nervous, I was greeted with open arms by the entire staff. I felt like I was surrounded by my family it was so strange. I arrived after dinner was prepared and I was so hungry, the staff was so thoughtful they put a plate aside for me just like my mom used to do. My days were crammed pack with little down time, evenings were extra special spending time with others around the fire pit talking and spilling our guts. I needed a place where I could get to the roots of my addiction and begin to rebuild my life and that’s exactly what I received at Passages. I found getting help is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s a reason to celebrate and something to be proud of. I have recommended Passages to many People I know so they may have the same opportunity of living a Happy and Healthy life. Thank you to everyone at Passages, the list is long and I will never forget those whom saved my life.

My Perfect Sobriety Retreat

When I first heard about Passages I was skeptical. I was not familiar with the philosophy as it is much different than other rehab facilities out there. After my first initial phone call with admissions I knew this was the start of something great. Insurance covered a large percentage of my 30 day stay. It was everything and more than what you see advertised. The grounds are immaculate, the staff is helpful and welcoming and more importantly that treatment sessions are world-class. Since graduating from Passages I have a better understanding on what was driving me to use and abuse drugs and alcohol. I now focus my time and attention on healthier alternatives to manage my stress and anxiety. I believe anyone out there who’s struggling with addiction could benefit from the treatment offered at Passages.

Since my stay 13 years ago.

I was one of the first 100 patients to walk through the doors at Passages Malibu, and receive treatment almost 13 years ago – I was but a mere 20 years old with absolutely no hope for my future. At that time in my life I couldn’t figure out which way was up, and which way was down – I had been abusing heavy drugs daily since I was 15 years old and never thought I would be able to kick the bad habits I had created for myself in that time. My biggest fear when walking into treatment was that I would be ridiculed and made to feel that I was a lost cause, and that I would always carry the stigma of “junkie” with me forever.

Before I even left for Passages, I called and left a message on their hotline asking for more information – within 10 minutes of leaving the message, to my surprise I received a return phone call from Chris Prentice himself. (during what would have been dinner time on the West Coast) I was shocked that this man, this stranger; would take anytime to reach out to me directly, let alone take the time away from dinner with his family to reach out to me so quickly. We spoke for nearly an hour, and after hanging up with him, I was booking my flight and would be arriving the next morning.

I spent 5 weeks at Passages Malibu (even spending my 21st birthday there – which the staff and my group made one of my most memorable birthdays I have ever had to this day) and was able to learn so many wonderful things that have helped me become the person I am today. Not only was I able to regain a positive outlook for my life, I realized that I wasn’t cursed, I wasn’t powerless, and I certainly wasn’t a “junkie” – I was a wonderful human being that just had many unresolved issues from my childhood and past that were causing me to want to “unplug from life” and drugs was how I personally chose to to do that unplugging.

I wish I could say that life was nothing but cupcakes and rainbows upon leaving, because it certainly wasn’t – but I have always remembered what I learned and have no question I wouldn’t be around today if it weren’t for Chris, Pax, and the rest of the staff at Passages Malibu.

Today I am a successful, happy, and extremely balanced 34 year old. I have a wonderful home, a fantastic career, and a loving family.

The treatment program offered at Passages is one of a kind, and completely life changing. I encourage anyone out there struggling with addiction to reach out to them and simply speak to someone, you will surely get the same warm feelings I got 13 years ago when I made the phone call for help, and I promise after spending time at Passages – you too will once again regain the positive outlook for a bright future.

Worlds Best Rehab Passages Malibu. Please go and discover a new you

I can’t say enough about how Passages Malibu saved my life.Mike bent over backwards fighting daily for treatment for me from my insurance. These guys saved my life. They are not just a treatment facility they are a family and you become part of that extended family once you attend. I never in my life had a chance to deal with the trauma from my childhood . I never felt like I could relax let my guard down.I could never open up. The first thing you will feel is how safe feel like living in a therapeutic cocoon.I never had that and was my first taste of that I was able to let go and let my guard down and for once in my life trust others.I can’t say that I didn’t have my own personal struggles . I did my mind was at war with my physical self ..Passages gave a road map to rediscovering myself. Accepting my faults as beautiful gifts and using them as postive assets to my life.Im ok and know I’m where I should be for right now in the universe.I rediscovered my lust for life and appeicate the small things as I did as a child that brought me so much joy and meaning to my life.Im not saying I’m not perfect or did I turn into a guy eating sprots and tofu which I tried there and was so good.I even relasped which im ok with because it was part of my journey to letting go of the pain and getting back on the right path .Ive learn to learn from my mistakes and embrace tham learn from them .the fact that I’m not perfect which is beautiful and that’s ok.. I held on to all this pain for so long that it became apart of me.I blamed everyone but myself I wrongly after my Dad passed blamed passages. That was the old me repeating a pattern blaming others for my mistakes even my drug use. I again looked for a reason to use and blame others . This time I noticed what I was doing I’ve gain the insight and tools to identify what I was doing . I was able to stop think and turn things around.Pax and Mike and all of passages thank you for such a priceless experience and a journey that awaken my soul .,You can’t put a price on peace of mind or self awareness or pulling me out of the purgatory I was living in and accepted this as my life forever.Im happy to say im on my own journey and everyday a new beautiful day filled with such beauty and joy. thank Pax and Mike for such a beauitful priceless gift .. Matt Overton ( Passages Family of 2015)

A life-changing process

If you want to change your path, go! If you want to blame others for your inability to recover, stay where you are and save yourself some money and time. Because you will look for someone to blame everywhere you go. I believe they have the best treatment possible. It was my first and I hope my only one. I got to meet one of the co-founders and he is very down to earth, accessible and supportive.

At first I was worried about the possibility of having a fun life without substances. At last I found all of the ways I could enjoy every day and be sober, thanks to Passages Ventura and its wonderful staff.

Great alternative to 12-Step programs.

I attended Passages almost five years ago and personally found the experience transformational. The staff, the program, and the setting were all very conducive to my recovery. While I don’t think anyone will have much success without the right frame mind and dedicated effort, the approach at Passages was just what I was looking for after being underwhelmed by the 12 Steps. Although I did have one brief slip shortly after leaving, I was able to right the ship quickly and have been sober over four years now. I believe my time at Passages was instrumental to my new way of living.

An Amazing Unforgettable Experience

My name is Scott Anderson, and I was a True Addict/Alcoholic in every since of the word. Before I went to passages in 2010
I had been on an All Day Bottle to Tooth Vodka habit, as well as popping copious amounts of Morphine/Vicodin & Valum & smoking Weed. All after being white knuckle sober for a year after a previous 7day detox from Alcohol & Cocain.
My girlfriend gave me the Book on the Cure which I read while I was using. One night I had enuf!
I Made the call to passages and was picked up in the morning by a town car headed to Passages. That was the Best Decision I’ve Made in This Life.
What can I say?… From the moment I began treatment with a Team of Phsychologist, an Acupuncturist, massage therapist, what I called the “Resident Guru”, who I’ll never forget, that guided us daily in Meditation, Chi Gong, Tai Chi, Sound Therapy, Hikes through the canions, kayaking, surfing…
It was Just an Amazing. And we had the Best Chef! This was no Rehab! I called it “Therapy Camp”. Reason being, this place helped me work out my underline issues that drove my addictions with the help of a collaboration of therapists daily. I stayed for 90 days by choice. At the end of each month I knew I had more work to do on myself. And the work I was getting done with my therapist was so deep and going so well I also wanted to keep it going. I made lots of great friends and we all helped Each other along the way. I could go on and on. Passages Was A Truly Special And Life Changing Experience. It was hard work no doubt about it! But I put in the work that needed to be done because I truly would not be here today without my intentions and the help of every person at Passages.

What are the Underlying Causes of Addiction?

By Jennifer McDougall

Addiction (defined as a state characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences) generally begins with the desire to escape—pain, loss, heartache, rejection, discomfort, anxiety, chemical imbalances in the brain, and depression. When drugs and alcohol are consumed they affect how the brain operates and processes information. Three areas of the brain most affected by drugs and alcohol are the brain stem (controls heart rate, breathing, and sleeping patterns), the cerebral cortex (delivers information from our senses allowing us to see, feel, hear, and taste), and the limbic system (controls our ability to feel pleasure). After using drugs and alcohol for even a short period of time a person could experience immediate dependency (defined as an adaptive state associated with a withdrawal syndrome upon cessation of repeated exposure to a stimulus). They may feel the urge to continue using in order to keep them going and avoid the awful withdrawal symptoms that are associated with the use of drugs and alcohol.

In a recent study it was shown that an estimated 23.5 million Americans suffer from an addiction to drugs and alcohol. Of those 23.5 million only 1 out of 10 people receive the treatment they desperately need. About 570,000 people die each year because of an addiction to drugs and alcohol. So as you see, treatment is crucial.

At Passages, we do not believe that drug and alcohol dependency is a disease. Instead, we believe it is the result of one or more of the following four causes:

  1. Chemical imbalance
  2. Unresolved events from the past
  3. Beliefs you hold that are inconsistent with what is true
  4. Inability to cope with current conditions

Anyone who is abusing drugs and alcohol is doing so because of one or more of these four causes. Through extensive research and direct experience, we have learned that addiction is not the primary problem but rather the symptom of a deeper underlying issue.

Passages is proud to offer you the finest drug rehab & treatment program available anywhere. Our deluxe rehabilitation and treatment center has been rated #1 by Healthcare Global magazine. Forbes magazine also named Passages Malibu one of the most luxurious rehab centers in the world.

This recognition comes after years of perfecting our treatment program and sticking with our core philosophy for treating addiction. While most rehab centers still offer group meetings for treatment, we provide you with a customized, one-on-one therapy program tailored to your specific needs.

“I began asking myself just what my high was about. What did I do when I was high that I didn’t do when I was sober? What was wrong that heroin fixed?”
― Pax PrentissThe Alcoholism and Addiction Cure

“A friend tells you the truth, that your breath stinks and you need a bath. An enemy tells you that you look great and you shouldn’t change a thing.”
― Nikki SixxThe Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of A Shattered Rock Star

“Alcohol and drugs are not the problems; they are what people are using to help themselves cope with the problems. Those problems always have both physical and psychological components- anything from anemia, hypoglycemia, or a sluggish thyroid to attention deficient disorder, brain-wave pattern imbalances, or deep emotional pain.”
― Chris PrentissThe Alcoholism and Addiction Cure

“I spent the rest of that day and most of the night thinking about all the hundreds of people I had met in rehabs and sober living houses and on the streets. We were all medicating our fears and our pain!”
― Pax PrentissThe Alcoholism and Addiction Cure

To avoid getting wrapped up in the awful cycle of addiction, we recommend practicing these 7 healthy habits everyday.

  1. Surround yourself with positive influences who encourage you, motivate you, respect you, and tell you the truth.
  2. Eat right, stay hydrated, and exercise daily. This is essential to your physical and mental wellbeing.
  3. Practice meditation to care for your spiritual health.
  4. Maintain a positive outlook and perspective on life and current situations.
  5. Embrace a sober lifestyle. There are plenty of things you can do and enjoy without the use of drugs and alcohol.
  6. Keep your mind active and challenged by reading, writing, and pursuing your passions.
  7. Know when to put your foot down and say NO when you disagree or feel pressured into doing something you don’t feel right about.

At Passages Addiction Treatment Centers, we focus on helping our clients heal the underlying conditions that are causing them to use and abuse drugs and alcohol. Unlike most treatment centers, we do not label you an addict or believe that you are powerless. Instead we utilize a variety of 19 holistic healing methods that empower you to grow in ways you may never had thought possible before. Don’t wait another day to break free from the brutal cycle of addiction. The time has come to make a change and begin living a healthy, happy, and sober life. Call us today!

Passages Malibu: Revolutionizing Addiction Treatment for 15 Years.

When Chris and Pax Prentiss opened Passages on August 11th, 2001 they had one goal in mind, to open the world’s finest treatment center, and help as many people as they could. Now, fourteen years later and it’s clear they have accomplished their goal, not only has their groundbreaking, holistic approach made them the No. 1 rehab in the world, but they’ve also revolutionized the industry.

“When we opened 15 years ago, we were ridiculed by other treatment centers for not incorporating the 12-Steps into our program, but why we should, we knew the 12-Step philosophy was contradictory to what we believed to be true about treating addiction. Ultimately, we refused to use it and instead relied on professional one-on-one treatment to be the mainstay of our program. Over the years, as Passages grew in popularity other treatment centers were more inclined to adopt our ways or be faced with becoming stagnant.” Said co-founder and CEO Pax Prentiss.

At the core of the Passages’ game changing philosophy is their focus on healing the underlying conditions that cause addiction. They do this through a holistic program that offers an abundance of one-on-one therapy. “One-on-one treatment is far more effective then groups when it comes to treating someone’s underlying conditions.” Says Prentiss. Pax should know, he was addicted to heroin, cocaine and alcohol for ten years, and failed many times at traditional rehab centers that incorporate the 12-steps and offered only group meetings.

Passages is Joint Commission Accredited, has been ranked the No. 1 rehab in the world, and was named by Forbes magazine as one of the “Most Luxurious Places to Dry Out.” In 2009 Passages opened its sister facility in Ventura California.

On August 10th, 2015, Passages opened their very first outpatient treatment center located in Venice, California for those who are in need of holistic outpatient treatment that is similar to what is provided at Passages Malibu and Passages Ventura.  Passages also has a sober living facility located in vibrant Santa Monica, California.

At Passages Addiction Treatment Centers – Addiction Ends Here

About Passages Addiction Treatment Centers:

Founded by Chris Prentiss and Pax Prentiss, Passages Malibu opened in 2001 with its second location, Passages Ventura, opening in 2009 and an outpatient center in Venice, California which opened in 2015. The three drug and alcohol abuse treatment centers offer an alternative to the 12-step/AA model of addiction treatment by taking a holistic approach with a program that focuses on the underlying issues of substance dependency, rather than suggesting that addiction is an incurable disease. Passages Malibu and Passages Ventura have earned the coveted JCAHO (Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accreditation, which has only been given to 6% of the nation’s behavioral health treatment programs. The co-founders are also authors of the acclaimed series of treatment books that include their groundbreaking flagship book, “The Alcoholism & Addiction Cure.” At Passages, we believe: Addiction Ends Here.

20 Ways to Create a Healthy and Sober Lifestyle

By Jennifer McDougall

If you are someone who just completed treatment and are looking to get back home and resituated into the comfort of your own surroundings you may be wondering what to do when you get there. First off, it’s important for friends and family to know that you are sober now and ready to focus on creating a lifestyle that reflects your good choices and healthy habits. If you are lucky, they will be supportive.

In some cases, family and friends have pushed back and said things like, “No you don’t need to eliminate certain things entirely. You just need to learn to use in moderation.” If you are someone who has a track record of addiction and abuse this may not be the best advice for you to hear.

You must feel comfortable and confident with your choices. They are only yours to make and when the influence of other people weighs in too deep it’s easy to get sidetracked. Don’t let this happen. Know who your true friends are and lean on those who support your choices to better yourself. This is the best possible way for people to respect you and your new lifestyle.

When you get back home, try to avoid all the people, places, and things that would encourage drug or alcohol use before you went into treatment. Remind yourself that this is a new path you are walking down and the only time you need to look back is to see how far you have come.  Here are a few ideas to keep yourself on course:

  1. Go to bed (9-10pm) and wake up early (6-7am).
  2. Sign up for a local gym and attend 3-4 times a week.
  3. Take weekly lessons for a sport you enjoy.
  4. Fill your bookshelf with new reading material.
  5. Stock up on delicious and non-processed food and beverage items (no sodas).
  6. Plan your meals each week without overdoing it.
  7. Attend local events (art shows, sporting events, live music).
  8. Travel to places you’ve never been before.
  9. Buy an assortment of herbal teas.
  10. Avoid drugs and alcohol.
  11. Distance yourself from toxic people who make you feel less than amazing.
  12. Pick up a new hobby such as photography, drawing, reading, writing, golf, tennis, or basketball.
  13. Utilize a daily planner and to-do lists to make the most of your day.
  14. Spend time outdoors and in the sun to get vitamin D and fresh air.
  15. Keep track of your goals and aspirations.
  16. Learn new skills to better your career.
  17. Spend quality one on one time with those you love and who make you laugh.
  18. Let go of regrets from the past.
  19. Maintain stable relationships.
  20. Keep a level head and learn patience when necessary so that anxiety does not get the best of you.

Creating a productive routine for yourself will help broaden your perspective on life and what you are capable of achieving. The best way to create this routine is by practicing a set of tasks every day that makes you feel good about yourself and ensure absolute peace of mind. Crossing things off your list as you go and doing your best not to procrastinate on difficult tasks will help keep you motivated.

When you spend 30-45 minutes at the gym 3-4 times a week will not only help transform your body and release anxiety and tension, it will help you focus at work, at home, and on yourself. Exercise is essential to getting and staying healthy.

Passages Ventura Celebrates 6 Years of Holistic Healing

By Jennifer McDougall

On May 17, 2009, Co- Founders, Chris and Pax Prentiss opened a second holistic healing center in Ventura, California. This non-12 step treatment center has been the home to thousands of those seeking to heal the underlying conditions causing them to use and abuse drugs and alcohol.

Passages Ventura is the sister facility to the world renowned non-12 step treatment center, Passages Malibu located exclusively in beautiful Malibu, California. After experiencing unparalleled success with the program and innovated treatment methods at Passages Malibu, father and son team Chris and Pax decided to expand by opening the doors to a new and more affordable treatment center focused on the same treatment methods used at Passages Malibu.

The program model was initially created after many failed attempts for Pax himself to get clean and sober. Pax struggled with addition for 10 years, but thanks to the program designed at Passages, Pax has now been sober for over 15 years and is the CEO of Passages Addiction Treatment Centers. He remains involved in the day- to- day functions at both facilities and works with many of our clients one-on-one to help mentor and guide them into the direction of ultimate sobriety and healthy life choices.

Not long after opening, Passages Ventura earned the coveted JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations) accreditation, which has only been given to 6% of the nation’s behavioral treatment programs. Passages Malibu is accredited by JCAHO as well, and both facilities continue to ensure the highest quality of treatment for each and every client that walks through the door.

There are currently 11 holistic treatment methods being utilized at Passages Ventura, all of which are provided regularly during a 30 or 90 day stay. A few of the treatment methods offered at Passages Ventura are: Acupuncture, Chemical Dependency Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Life Purpose Counseling, and Yoga Therapy. Passages also offers Continuing Care at both facilities, which a coordinator will recommend you to trustworthy therapists, enroll you in a local gym, help you find a sober coach, and whatever else you may need in order to be sure your sobriety is on track and successful.

Passages Ventura has seen an extraordinary amount of growth over the last 6 years. There is an immense amount of passion and care that goes into treating individuals at Passages Addiction Treatment Centers. The staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s safe to say that the success currently taking place at Passages is only the start to what’s to come. There is no limit to the growth at Passages Ventura. Chris and Pax are excited to continue to help thousands more who want to permanently overcome their addictions and live a life free from the intoxicating discomfort and pain caused by the abuse of drugs and alcohol.

Passages, Where Addiction Ends and Life Begins

About Passages Malibu & Passages Ventura:

Father and son team Chris and Pax Prentiss founded Passages Malibu in 2001. Its second location, Passages Ventura, first opened its doors in 2009. The two drug & alcohol abuse treatment centers offer an alternative to the 12 step AA model of addiction treatment by utilizing an innovated and holistic program that focuses on healing the underlying issues of substance dependency, rather than attributing addiction to an incurable disease.  Both Passages Malibu and Passages Ventura accept insurance.

Passages Malibu was named the #1 treatment center in the world by Healthcare Global, one of the “Most Luxurious Places to Dry Out” by Forbes magazine, and the Huffington Post recently acknowledged Passages as a center that “caters to a high-end crowd, with many CEOs, entrepreneurs, and high-powered professionals among its clients.”

The co-founders are also authors of an acclaimed series of addiction treatment books, including their groundbreaking, flagship title, The Alcoholism & Addiction Cure.

5 Commonly Asked Questions about Passages Addiction Treatment Centers

By Jennifer McDougall

1. “How much does it cost?”

Our pricing can vary depending on which facility you choose. We do accept a handful of private insurance policies. For specific pricing information please call (888) 397-0112, and ask to speak to an admissions adviser today.

2. “What do you guys do there?”

At Passages, we use various holistic and intensive therapy methods to help discover the underlying reasons to why an individual is using drugs and alcohol.

We believe in the following four causes of dependency:

  1. Chemical imbalance
  2. Unresolved events from the past
  3. Beliefs you hold that are inconsistent with what is true
  4. Inability to cope with current conditions

“If you have ancestors who were dependent on drugs or alcohol, and you have learned about the genetic factor, and you believe you have a genetic predisposition to become dependent, that will work heavily against you. Genetics play a part, but only a small one, and your tendency to become dependent, if you have one, is easily overcome by curing the four causes.” – Chris Prentiss, The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure

All the four causes of addiction are explained in great detail in The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure book.

“Unless you identify your core condition and correct it, you’ll probably continue to be dependent on substances for relief.” – Chris Prentiss, The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure

3. “What makes you so different?”

One of the major differences between Passages and any other treatment center is that not only are we not 12-step based, but we intend on healing the root cause of a person’s addiction through groundbreaking treatment methods.

Passages Malibu has been healing the underlying causes of addiction for over 15 years. We have a sister location in Ventura, California, a Luxury Sober Living facility in Santa Monica, California, and an Outpatient Treatment Center in Venice, California.  Our treatment team has years of excellent experience to be sure your stay here is comfortable and successful.

Passages is lead by father and son, Chris and Pax Prentiss. The two have both survived gruesome and treacherous darkness caused by addiction and they know firsthand what it takes to break-free from the nasty battle of addiction.

Pax, who is both the CEO and Co- Founder of Passages Addiction Treatment Centers, was an addict for 10 years. He was hooked on cocaine, heroin, and alcohol and it almost killed him several times.  Because of the help from his loving father, Chris, Pax was able to pull through and now lives an addiction-free life.

4. “How can you help me?”

If you make the choice to discover sobriety at one of Passages Addiction Treatment Centers, you will be in the hands of quality care and trained professionals who want to see you discover your true potential. Our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are here to be sure you are comfortable and feel secure while going through treatment.

5. “Can you really cure addiction?”

Chris Prentiss puts it nicely, “What you believe about yourself, about alcoholism and addiction, and about the possibility of a cure are key factors in determining whether you’ll overcome your dependency on addictive substances and behaviors or remain dependent on them.” The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure

If you believe that you are going to be one way for the rest of your life than that is what you will be, because that is what you believe to be true. If you alter your perception on this idea and understand the true meaning of dependency, you may come to realize that addiction is not the root problem. The problem is what is driving the addiction.

How to Discover Your Life’s Purpose

By Jennifer McDougall

Many of us ask ourselves this simple question, “What was I put on this earth to do?” The answer is different for every person. What we do- which direction we decide to take is purely up to us. No one can decide where our future lies besides our own individual selves.

When we take a step back and look at our lives, we see an array of choices that have lead us to this exact point. In every moment we breathe, think, and live in a reality we create for ourselves. If you find yourself unhappy and losing focus on the things that bring you joy, you may need to re-center your energy into what it is that you were put on this earth to do.

Through our skills and talents there lies something very special within every one of us that we were created to share with the world.

Many of us have often felt lost and confused. We have been in the middle of a cold fog without a clue of where to go next. With technology being the leader in our day to day lives, it’s no wonder why many of us feel overwhelmed with the amount of opportunities and choices available to us. Now more than ever we have the power to choose where we live, who we marry, if we marry, how far we travel, what we drive, wear, eat, and do.

People all across the world have the luxury of having so many options and choices they can make. The downside of that is no one can seem to decide what it is they want to do with their lives.  That is why it is important to set your sights on the things that bring you the most happiness and fulfillment at the end of each and every day.

For some, it is creating works of art that opens the eyes of others to see a perspective on something that is so abstract and brilliant that it changes the way people see the world. For others, it’s running a successful empire that conducts business in such a way that has never been done before.  There are those who hope to advocate for a nonprofit organization and help save the lives of people in less fortunate circumstances.

Finding your life purpose is a process that you should not hesitate to aim for. Read these 5 simple tips that will help you narrow down what it is that you were created to do here on earth.

  1. Write down the top 10 things you enjoy doing the most outside of work.

Think of what makes you smile the most. Ask yourself what causes you care most about? If you could teach something, what would it be? Dig deep and find what matters most to you.

  1. Use exercise and meditation to gain mental clarity.

Being active is a good way to clear your mind. It is also a great way to see where your mind wanders when you’re not busy working on other things. More importantly, it will help you preserve balance in times of excitement and distress.

  1. Listen to what other people say about your strengths and weaknesses.

They have the insight to see what best suits your abilities, personality, and skills.

  1. Embrace moments of solitude.

Put your cell phone away for at least an hour every night, and disconnect from the world and chaotic things happening outside the four walls that surround you.

  1. Find what brings you true inspiration.

It could be music, a specific person, an activity, or a book. Whatever it is that reveals inspirational qualities specifically for you is what your subconscious mind feeds from. That is the heart of your soul’s wish. That is what you should pay close attention to.
