An Addiction Philosophy: Step Three for Treating Addiction

by Dr. Kerri Heath

“Your most important work is always ahead of you, never behind you.”

–Dr. Stephen R. Covey

There is a way to end addiction.  But before you can experience it, you must believe that it’s possible.  Currently, you have a philosophy on what addiction is whether you are aware of it or not.  You have already decided if you believe addiction can be healed or if you believe that it is a terminal illness.  The philosophy you choose to believe will determine your experience of addiction.

Passages Addiction Treatment Center believes addiction can be treated by addressing the real causes of dependency head-on with a three-step holistic treatment program.  The three steps are:

Step 1:  Believe that a complete recovery is possible for you

Step 2:  Discover and heal the underlying causes with a holistic recovery program

Step 3:  Adopt a philosophy based on what is true in the universe

The final step in the journey towards recovery requires that you adopt a personal philosophy.  One of the major causes of dependency is the lack of a personal philosophy on addiction.  Your mind is a very powerful thing.  The thoughts you have become your reality, so identifying your beliefs become foundational in the journey towards healing. At Passages Addiction Treatment Center in Malibu, finding a philosophy of addiction which is congruent with the universal laws of nature.

The universal law of gravity states that every particle in the universe attracts every other particle with the force that is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.  Cause and effect is another Universal law which states that every action produces a result that is in exact accord with the action.  Once you begin to incorporate a philosophy of addiction into your life that is in accordance with Universal law, your life will bring such joy that you can remain calm through any difficult situation. An example of an addiction philosophy is that “everything that happens benefits us.”

A personal philosophy that is based on universal law will sustain you through the tragedies of life.  It will also sustain everyday activities by providing optimism and hope for the things to come.  Life begins at the end of your comfort zone, so when you are ready to try something new… a personal addiction philosophy that is in accord with the universal law will equip you for the adventures that await.
